Remembering 9/11 Freebie!

Next week brings on the anniversary of 9/11 and every year it sends chills down my spine.  It is such a memorable day for most of us, because it was so close to home, and it was aired live on tv for us all to see.   It may be even more upsetting to you if you have a loved one that was involved in that horrible day.  I think it is important that we teach about 9/11 so that our students have an understanding of our nation when it came together as one to help keep everyone safe and united while facing a devastating attack.  This is the time of year that I like to teach about a few different ideas that reinforce our nation's strengths: what it means to be a good citizen, people who keep us safe, and how we can make a difference.  These are topics that we learn about it social studies already, but they are very good to make connections with when teaching about 9/11.

So to help you all out with your September 11th lessons, I decided to link up with Erica Bohrer's First Grade    to share some ideas and handouts that I use while teaching my lesson.

Be sure to check out her website and link up if you can.  It is always great to see all the good ideas everyone has, especially since 9/11 is still a newer topic to teach about (well it's been 11 years, but still new compared to other history).  Click on the cover below and it should bring you to TPT where you can download it for FREE!

It's crazy that it's almost September 11th.  Time flies when you're busy! Enjoy your freebie and please leave a comment below if you get a chance.  I love reading what you all have to say!
